Programs at the Family Museum

Drop-In Programs:

Everyday, the Family Museum presents delightful Drop-In workshops that support the developmental needs of kids age 8 and under. Programs take place in our kid-friendly classrooms, dance studios, or right under the rainbow ceiling in our Great Hall. No preregistration is required, and all drop in programs are included with your Family Museum admission or membership. Drop-In programs are designed for families to enjoy cooperatively. Come ready to play and learn together! For information on today's Drop-In programs, please contact the Welcome Desk at 563-344-4106.

Preschool Alternative Programs:

The Family Museum is home to New Blues and Old Blues, the arts-based preschool program that strives to build an enduring love of learning in children. Spanning the traditional school year, New and Old Blues are whole-child focused early childhood programs, designed to prepare your child for success in future formalized learning endeavors. Old Blues students may also participate in Literally Yours, which focuses on preparing your child for future success in reading and writing. View more. A full roster of learning goals for New Blues, Old Blues, and Literally Yours is available by contacting Kim Kidwell, at 563-344-4166 or via e-mail at kkidwell@bettendorf.org

Dance Programs:

Did you know the Family Museum is home to a comprehensive dance program? Year-long classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, modern, and pointe are offered for students age four through adult. At the Family Museum, we strive to educate and inspire our students with a life-long love of dance as a performing art. Family Museum dancers learn how to dance while building self-esteem and having fun in our unique, recreational environment. Our program provides all children who want to dance with a creative outlet.

Summer Camps:

The Family Museum offers a full array of summer camps for children ages 3 years through 4th grade. Our summer schedule is typically published in late February or early March.

For Safety's Sake:

For the well-being of your child, we ask that you escort them to and from their preschool and dance classes. Please do not drop off children ages 8 and younger.

Exhibit Visits Before and After Class:

Admission to the exhibits is not included in your preschool or dance fees. Please check in at the Welcome Desk if you wish to visit the exhibits before or after class. Thank you!

Early Closings, Delays, or Cancellations:

From time to time, winter weather conditions cause travel difficulty or halt travel altogether. As a result, the morning and evening pre-scheduled classes held at the Family Museum are affected and a decision must be made to either continue with the pre-arranged schedule, or cancel the day's events. In an effort to better serve museum patrons affected by severe winter weather, the Family Museum will announce postponement and rescheduling of pre-registered preschool and dance programs based on the decision made by the Bettendorf School District.

The Museum will respond to cancellation decisions of the Bettendorf Schools with the following:

1. If inclement weather conditions in the morning cause Bettendorf Schools to cancel classes for the day, all pre-registered preschool and dance programs scheduled at the Family Museum for the day will be cancelled and the museum will close at 5 p.m.

2. If inclement weather conditions in the morning cause the Bettendorf Schools to delay the start of classes, pre-registered preschool and dance programs will take place at their usually scheduled times.

3. If inclement weather conditions that develop during the day cause Bettendorf Schools to release early and cancel evening activities, pre-registered dance programs for the evening will be cancelled and the museum will close at 5 p.m.

4. If inclement weather conditions that develop after 2 p.m. or the regular release time for Bettendorf Schools, a decision regarding dance programs will be made based on existing or forecast conditions. This decision will be publicized by 3 p.m. For those cancellations required after 2 p.m. or the regular release time for the Bettendorf School District, parents of children in pre-registered programs will be contacted via e-mail and/or phone by Family Museum program staff regarding the change in schedule for the evening.

Please refer to local media sources regarding Bettendorf Schools cancellations. We will also publicize our cancellations by 8 a.m. on our website's main page - www.familymuseum.org.

We do serve families from across our area, but have made the decision to align with our home community school district. We recognize that this decision may not always fit with individual circumstances. We fully support our parents in making the decision that is best for their child on inclement days when our classes have not been canceled.
