Kidtastic Event: Justin Roberts

Justin Roberts is truly one of the "all-stars" of the indie music scene. He logs in thousands of miles on the road each year and audiences of all ages will be happy to see that he is coming back to the Family Museum! He's bringing with him all new songs from his new CD Pop Fly. Justin's performance at the Family Museum will mark the first of several Kidtastic Events offered this year as the Family Museum celebrates all forms of arts and sciences! Best of all these events will be free with paid admission, and Family Museum Members will be admitted to these events for free! Games Around the World: China

As the world's great athletes gather to play at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, the Family Museum will join the celebration by playing some great games of our own! Join us for the first of our year-long series, Games Around the World, as we learn to play games from China and Asia. Each month we'll visit a new locale and explore the games that originate there.

Book Lover's Day

Use your creative side to bind and illustrate your own writing or drawing journal. We'll have book-readings to spur your imagination, too!

Family Museum Dance Open House
Saturday, August 16

Visit Family Museum Dance at an open house event! Meet the dance staff, see the dance studios and stage, and learn about the comprehensive dance program for children and teens age 4 and up. Visitors will also be able to register for fall classes, get placement information for new dancers over 6 years of age, and find out about the LimeLight Dance Company. Each event will also feature a 20-minute sample ballet class for new students aged 4-6, and a 20-minute sample jazz/hip-hop class for new students age 7 and up.

Ride the Wind Day

Up, up, and away! Enjoy Ride the Wind Day with paper airplanes, gliders, helicopters, kites, and parachute games.

National Toasted Marshmallow Day

We won't be toasting any marshmallows, but we can still have lots of fun with these gooey treats! Create structures and art with marshmallows and enjoy a yummy s-mores snack!

Jim Gill in Concert

Jim Gill's upbeat and energetic songs invite you to jump up and play! Jim's family concerts are unique because rather than performing for the children and parents, Jim leads them to sing and play together. Concert is included with paid admission! Members are admitted for free!

Games Around the World: Middle East

Join us for the second of our year-long series, Games Around the World, as we learn to play games from the Middle East. Each month we'll visit a new locale and explore the games that originate there.

National Punch Day

No one is certain what National Punch Day was created to celebrate, so we're going to try three different kinds of punches! We'll make punched paper crafts, see demonstrations from martial artists, and drink fruit punch.

Crush a Can Day

Go green and learn about recycling as we celebrate Crush a Can Day. Learn the science of can crushing and make some cool art from recycled objects.

 
 

Recurring Events


Drop-In Classes are over for the summer. They will resume fall semester.

The Itty-Bitty Club
Ages:
2 - 5, with an adult
Drop in: Thursday, anytime between 9 and 10 a.m.
Dates: 1st and 2nd Thursdays of each month
Fee: Included with Admission or Membership

We open with a story, maybe do a rhyme; sometimes build a tower or have finger-puppet time. Most things we do are colorful, some are pretty quiet, but when you come and play with us, it’s always quite a riot!  Each session features a different theme. 

 

Under the Big Tree with Buzz and Honey
Ages:
2-5, with an adult
Dates: Friday 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Fee: Included with Admission or Membership

Join Ms. Kim, Buzz, and Honey for stories and songs under the big tree in the Museum's Great Hall every Friday. All kids age 5 and under with their caregivers are invited to join in the fun!   

Drop In Art

Ages: 4 and up, with an adult
Dates: Saturday 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM OR 10:30 - 11:30 (Please come early; class sizes will be limited to 10 participants and their adults)
Fee: Admission to the Museum or Membership, plus $2 materials fee to be paid to the instructor. 

Make art a family affair.  Every Saturday morning this session, Mr. Glenn will be in his art room ready to guide participants in a new art project.  Students age 4 and up and their accompanying adults may drop in and work on the featured project.  We will have plenty of supplies that will allow participants to express their individual creativity.  Projects will include the use of various art media, including drawing, painting, junk sculpture, paper art, and clay.

 

Quad Cities Jugglers

Ages: All ages invited
Dates: Thursday 5:30 - 7:30 PM
Fee: Free!  Please check in at the Welcome Center.

Whether you want to watch or learn, Thursdays  are a great family night to join the Quad Cities Juggling Club at the Family Museum! Pull up a chair and watch as pins and balls fly through the air, or ask one of the members to teach you how to juggle - all ages welcome!
