Lights Out: Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

Lights Out! Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

Monday, August 21

Activities: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Eclipse Viewing: 1:00 - 1:30 pm

Join us in a celebration of a very rare solar eclipse on August 21, 2017!  The Midwest will see our massive sun blocked out by our tiny moon! Take part in a sunny science party with your family and use the sun's rays to make a special piece of art.  Do an orbit dance, see if you can make your own eclipse, meet an astronomer, and take a look at the sun with a solar telescope. Our party will end with a viewing of the partial eclipse in the Quad Cities through special eclipse glasses, and then we'll watch NASA's live stream of the total eclipse.

We will have certified eclipse glasses for the first 100 visitors! Please remember never to look directly into the sun unless you have certified glasses. Looking directly into the sun can cause blindness, even during an eclipse. For more information, please visit NASA's website for details.

I just wanted to tell you that my grandchildren and I had a really nice day at the museum. I was impressed with all the different areas and interactive things for the kids to try.
