Looking for something to do during Spring Break? Look no further! The Family Museum has 12 great days of spring break programming for your family to enjoy. All events and performances are included with admission or membership! Sponsored by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.

Monday, March 13
Steve Couch "Superheroes for Reading"
11:00 am

Steve Couch and your kids will have to become superheroes to stop his computer-animated friend, “TV”, from becoming a super villain and controlling the weather so kids have to stay in and only watch TV! Kids will sing, dance, clap, yell and join in the hilarious fun while learning interesting facts about the seasons, wind, rain, and weather.

Tuesday, March 14
Pi Day and Albert Einstein's Birthday

10:00 am: Albert Einstein's Mad Science Show
1:00 - 2:30 pm: Make a Pi Symbol
3:14 pm: Pi Fight! Grad a poncho and pie to throw at your friend! Be ready to get messy and celebrate Pi Day!

Wednesday, March 15
Doc McStuffins Day
10:00 am - 2:00 pm

EVENT CHANGE, PLEASE NOTE: Doc McStuffins will not be appearing at this event. Bring your favorite stuffed friend in for a check-up. Fix their boo-boos, listen to their heart, brush them, and learn how to take good care of your furry friends. A visit from the Scott County Humane Society 10:00 am - noon! 

Thursday, March 16
Blast Off! Outer Space Day!

Planetarium
Step into a planetarium and learn about our galaxy! When you arrive at the Museum, sign up for one of these times: 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, or 3:00 pm.

Stomp Rockets
9:00 - 11:00 am and 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Make a paper rocket and launch it as high as you can in our Great Hall!

Friday, March 17
Quad City Symphony Orchestra Day!
Performances: 10:00 am and 2:00 pm
Workshops: 11:30 am and 1:00 pm

The Quad City Symphony woodwind quintet, comprised of the principal wind players of the Quad City Symphony, will present a kid friendly program that includes Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear the members of the Quad City Symphony up close and personal as they present this timeless classic. After the performance, everyone will have an opportunity to meet the musicians and hear their instruments individually in break-out sessions throughout the Family Museum. 

Saturday, March 18
Jim Gill - National Campaign for Play!
11:00 am

Don’t miss singing, dancing, and interacting with children’s entertainer Jim Gill.  He has a new CD out “Vote for Jim Gill” with 14 new and original recordings.  Families will enjoy his games and songs and can get in the groove together!

Monday, March 20
Opera Iowa "Jack and the Beanstalk"
Interactive Workshop: 9:45 am
Performance: 11:00 am

This 45-minute, audience-interactive production utilizes great music from the operettas of Sir Arthur Sullivan.  This familiar tale teaches us that consideration for others requires people, large and small, to treat others as they would want to be treated! 

Tuesday, March 21
Disney Dance Party
11:30 am - 1:00 pm

The Myers Brothers Band will be here singing and playing all of your Disney Favorites! From Frozen to The Little Mermaid, kids can boogie in the Great Hall under the Disco Ball.  Be on the lookout for some special appearances from some of your favorite Disney characters, too!

Bubble Wonders
11:00 am

Bubble Wonders is fun, inspiring, educational, and captivating to both young and old. See amazing bubble tricks including the bubble caterpillar, bubble volcano, the dancing bubble, bubbles inside of bubbles, kid inside a bubble, and more! 

Thursday, March 23
9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Use packing tape, cardboard, and other recycled materials to make whatever you can imagine!  Forts, robots, tunnels… what will you make? Tape donated by 3M

Friday, March 24
Doc McStuffins Day
10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Saturday, March 25
Chicago Human Rhythm Project Presents BAM!
10:30 am

Audiences will be delighted by technical and improvised tap performances while even getting a chance to participate in expressing their own inner rhythm. Through the touring program “We All Got Rhythm!”, CHRP creates a universe of rhythmic possibilities that will ignite imaginations and leave audience members wanting more!
