The Family Museum is a department of the City of Bettendorf, Iowa. Built in 1997, the Museum is located on the Learning Campus next to the Bettendorf Public Library and Information Center. Sitting just off 18th Street and Spruce Hills Drive in Bettendorf, the Museum prides itself on offering an array of unique and educational experiences for children and families alike. Since opening in the new facility in 1997, the Museum has served over 1.2 million people!

The Family Museum includes 44,000 square feet of programming space including a 9,600 square feet interactive exhibit hall, three multi-purpose rooms for dance instruction and performances, two preschool classrooms, two art studios, one science studio, a party room, a great hall, Corner Store, welcome theater for groups, and an outdoor science discovery park named the "Kingdom for Kids" playground.

Exhibits and programs are designed for a primary audience of children ages eight years of age and younger and their adult caregivers. Since opening in 1997, the Museum is proud to have hosted such exciting traveling exhibits as Hubble Space Telescope: New View of the Universe, Grossology: the Impolite Science of the Human Body, and The Vision of Jim Henson. In addition to the wonderful exhibits schedule, the Museum has welcomed special presentations by famed productions like Cirque du Soleil and the Tap Dogs, plus presentations from Grammy nominees Justin Roberts and Trout Fishing in America. The Museum also offers a host of programs for older young people and adults including dance classes and the Monday Morning Art Studio just to name a couple.

The Museum offers guests numerous free weekly drop-in activities, special events every Saturday, gallery educators to supplement the gallery's learning experience, as well as a broad range of interactive hands-on exhibits. Admission to the Family Museum is:

  • $7 for everyone ages 2 - 59
  • $4 for adults ages 59+ and children age one year to 23 months
  • $4 for active military personnel, their spouse and children residing in the household  
  • Free for visitors under age one and all Family Museum members
Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.  Young people ages 14 and up need not be accompanied by an adult.

Handicap Parking
Handicap Parking is located on the southeast side of the Museum. You can access these spots by going through the Bettendorf Library's parking lot. These spots are the closest spots to the Museum and the automatic door.
 
Special Needs Kits Available!
The Family Museum is pleased to offer visitors a special sensory kit to assist those who may need support with calming children with special needs.  Upon request, our Guest Services staff will gladly provide you with a kit filled with such items as calming brushes, sensory toys, and tools to assist children with tension that they may endure while playing at the Museum.  Also, the Museum's staff is happy to provide you with a quiet low-lit room when necessary to help calm your child if necessary.
