Play Pal Activities

Our Play Pals will be on hand to help families play, learn, and have fun! They might have an activity, project, or craft - it changes daily! Look for our Play Pals in the Great Hall or the exhibit galleries.

Rainforest Adventure

Rainforest Adventure (appearing at the Family Museum June 13 – September 7) is a multisensory expedition that introduces visitors to tropical rainforests around the world, highlights the challenges facing these unique ecological wonders, and suggests ways that people can make a difference. Rainforest Adventure topics include: tropical rainforests around the world, conservation, scientists, animals, plants and global connections.

• Meet scientists and explore the ways they study rainforests

• Become a research assistant through assignments, costumes and props

• Take a closer look at plant and material slides through an oversized microscope

• Climb a kapok tree that’s 9 feet tall

• Study plant and animal life in the different layers of the rainforest

• Weave on a loom

• Climb through a tree log to discover animals that make their homes there.

• Explore a gorilla nest

• Discover products that come from tropical rainforests

• Visit children around the world and learn how their families help protect the rainforests

• Learn about what you can do to help protect rainforests around the world.

Rainforest Adventure was created by Stepping Stones Museum for Children with support from The Jaffe Family Foundation and MeadWestvaco Corporation. 

Open Art Studio

Kids and their adults can stop in and get creative! Explore many forms of visual art, paint, sculpt, collage, and more in our fully equipped upstairs art studio. A new project each week! Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. No Exceptions.
